Counselling through music, voice and creative expression.

For more than 20 years, I have worked with adults and children through music — exploring voice, songwriting, harmonium, performance, creativity and connection.

Now, as a counsellor, I bring that experience into a distinctive form of one-to-one therapeutic work.

Rather than relying solely on conversation, my sessions can incorporate music, voice, songwriting, listening and creative expression to help you explore what is happening beneath the surface.

A private space to be heard, expressed and deeply understood.

The Work

Sometimes we can understand something intellectually without actually being able to shift it.

Music can open another doorway.

In our sessions, we may work with conversation, music, voice, songwriting, rhythm, listening or creative expression — depending on what feels meaningful and appropriate for you.

You don't need to be musical.

You don't need to perform.

And you don't need to arrive knowing exactly what you need.

This is personalised work, shaped around you.

EXPLORE MUSIC-BASED COUNSELLING

Music has been at the centre of my life and work for more than two decades.

I've worked with children and adults of all presentations through singing, songwriting, harmonium, workshops, performance, retreats and creative wellbeing experiences.

I've performed and facilitated at festivals and retreats across Australia and internationally, released two albums, taught music and voice, and created spaces where people can connect through music.

Now I bring that depth of experience together with my counselling practice.

The result is a therapeutic approach that honours both the person in front of me and the unique ways they communicate, feel and express themselves.

You don't need to know exactly what you're looking for.

A private 15-minute consultation gives us an opportunity to connect, talk about what has brought you here and explore whether this way of working feels right for you.

All workshops and sessions can be funded through NDIS.

About Mel

A lifelong relationship with music, people and connection.

I'm Mel Dobra — a counsellor, musician, creative practitioner and retreat facilitator.

For more than 20 years, I've worked with adults and children through music in many different capacities.

I've taught, performed, facilitated workshops and retreats, worked with voice and songwriting, guided people through creative experiences and created spaces where people can connect more deeply with themselves and each other.

My counselling practice is a natural extension of that journey.

I don't believe there is one way to express what we're experiencing. Sometimes we need words. Sometimes we need music. Sometimes we need silence, movement, creativity or simply someone who is willing to really listen.

My role is to create the space for you to discover what your own expression looks like.

A little bit more about my music journey.

My work has taken me from intimate gatherings to some of Australia's best-known festivals and international retreats, including Woodford Folk Festival, Splendour in the Grass, Falls Festival, Rainbow Serpent, Esoteric, Bali Spirit Festival and Byron Spirit Festival.

I've worked alongside yoga teachers, musicians, retreat facilitators and creative practitioners across Australia and Asia, and have shared the stage with artists including Deva Premal & Miten, Manose, Dave Stringer, Kevin James and Dustin Thomas.

I've released Sacred Tides and Smoke and Flame, and continue to weave music, creativity and connection into my work.
